How the app works, in the order people ask.
Scoring on the night
Anyone on the team sheet can score โ it doesn't have to be the captain, just
whoever has the phone. Open the match from Fixtures and start tapping.
One game at a time. As each game finishes, tap its score. It's best of three legs, so 2โ0, 2โ1, 1โ2 or 0โ2 โ there's no such thing as a draw in a game.
Say who played. Tap the player, or two of them for doubles.
8s at the end, once all seven games are in. See below for whose.
Submit. The other team submit theirs too, and when the two match the result is final and the tables move.
Every tap saves straight away, so nothing is lost if the signal drops in the back bar,
and the scores appear on the public match page as you go. Only one person per team should be scoring โ if somebody else has already started, you'll be told who, and you can
take over if they've handed you the phone.
Opened the wrong match? Clear my entries at the bottom of the card undoes your side of it.
When the two cards don't match
Both sides submit their own card and the app compares them game by game. If every game
agrees, the result is confirmed there and then. If any game differs, the match is marked disputed and the league admins are told.
Nothing is emailed to the other team โ whoever scored it may not be their captain, and it
isn't for the app to start that conversation. On your own card the games you disagree on are
highlighted; tap one to change your score and submit again. If you were the one who had it
wrong, that's the end of it.
If you both agreed on every game but neither of you pressed submit, an admin can close the
match out without anyone retyping it. Worth asking rather than waiting.
Whose 8s do we record?
You record the other team's 8s, and they record yours. The side that saw it counts it.
Only the away side's 8s count towards the table โ except on the last match night of
the season, when both teams' count. That's the league's rule rather than the app's, so the
app applies it for you: you enter what you saw, and it works out whether it counts.
Our match is off โ how do we move it?
Either captain can move their own match, once the two of you have agreed a new date.
You don't need an admin, and it doesn't have to be a Monday โ whatever suits both teams.
Open the match page.
Tap Move fixture.
Pick the new date, time and venue, and say why.
The other captain and the league admins are emailed automatically, the fixtures list updates,
and the match keeps its original date on record so it's clear it was rearranged.
Two limits. You can only move a match that hasn't started โ once scoring has begun, ask
an admin. And you can't move it to a date that has already passed. If the night has been and
gone and nobody played, an admin can still move it for you.
Why doesn't my rating match my wins?
Because it isn't a win count. The rating is an Elo rating, the same idea chess uses:
beating a strong opponent gains you more than beating a weak one, and losing to a strong
opponent costs you less than losing to a weak one. Someone who has played nine and won eight
can sit below someone who won fewer against harder opposition.
Everyone starts at 1500.
Singles and doubles count. The team game doesn't โ so your rating is based on fewer games than your played total.
In doubles, a pair is rated as the average of the two players.
A 2โ0 and a 2โ1 move it the same amount. A win is a win.
The season rating resets each September. The all-time one carries on.
Ratings update when a result is confirmed, and again overnight. If a result went in and the
numbers haven't moved, give it until the morning, then tell an admin.
Catch-up weeks, breaks and finals night
The fixtures list shows more than match nights. Catch-up weeks,
cup and plate rounds, singles and doubles nights, the bonfire and Christmas breaks and finals
night all appear on their own dates, in colour, so an empty-looking week explains itself.
A catch-up week isn't necessarily empty. It's kept free of league fixtures so that rearranged matches can be played on it โ so if you've moved a match onto one, it'll be listed
there as normal.
Putting the night on a screen
On a match night, open the league home page and go to the night view, then
press Full screen. Every match on the night fills the display, scores update live as
captains tap them in, and the + and โ buttons size the text for the room.
Something else
Anything about the rules โ qualification, what counts, how a competition is drawn โ
is the league's, not the app's: ask the secretary. Anything that looks like the app getting it
wrong, tell a league admin, or use the feedback link in the beta notice at the top of the page.
It goes straight to the people building it.
