How it works
Payments
Leagues and clubs on Somethinger collect their fees by card. Here is exactly how the money moves, what we charge, and who is responsible for what.
The model in one paragraph
Each league or club connects its own Stripe account through Stripe Connect. When a member pays — a team's £30 season entry, a club sub, an event ticket — the card payment is processed by Stripe and settles directly to that organisation's account. Somethinger never holds the money. The organisation is the merchant of record: its name is on the card statement, and its committee decides refunds.
What it costs
| Example: a £30 team entry | |
|---|---|
| Member pays | £30.00 |
| Somethinger platform fee (flat, per transaction) | £5.00 |
| Stripe card processing (paid by the organisation) | ≈ £1.15 |
| Organisation receives | ≈ £23.85 |
The platform fee is a fixed amount taken as a Stripe application fee at the moment of payment — never an invoice later, never a percentage that grows with your fees. Members pay no charge on top of what their organisation asks.
Who does what
- The member pays by card on their organisation's page here — for example a team captain paying their entry fee.
- The organisation (league or club) sets its fees, receives the money into its own Stripe account, handles payouts to its bank, and decides refunds and disputes.
- Somethinger provides the software: registration, rosters, fixtures, results, and the checkout. We take the flat fee and never touch the rest.
- Stripe processes every card payment and holds the organisation's funds. Card details go to Stripe directly and never touch our servers.
Refunds and disputes
Ask the organisation you paid — refunds are their decision, made in their Stripe account, and our terms say so. If a payment goes technically wrong (charged but not recorded, checkout failing), contact hello@somethinger.com and we'll trace it.
For leagues and clubs
Connecting takes a few minutes from your admin page: Stripe walks your treasurer through identity and bank details, and card payments switch on when Stripe approves the account. Until then your fees are visible to members but nothing is collected. Find your league or start one to try it.
